If you want porcelain. In time (starting 15 years?) it will start micro-cracks, from heating and cooling, then chip off. It's glass. Just look at an original porcelain Packard, Duesenberg, or Jaguar manifold. If it was porcelain originally, then I think you'd want porcelain.

If it wasn't porcelain originally, then ceramic coatings that retain the original look of cast iron or a painted cast iron manifold are the way to go. They help dissipate heat and keep the manifolds looking like brand new with no maintenance. There are different finishes and colors, matte and glossy (extra due to polishing), but $160 for a pair of manifolds is a great investment. www.boneheadperformance.com Bonehead Performance Inc. 1836 Stout Dr Unit # 18 Warminster, PA 18974 Phone- 215-674-8206 Fax- 215-674-8306 sales@boneheadperformance.com

I spoke with Tom with Prairie Auto Porcelain, and he and his son do all the work and have extensive experience. He said that they ceramic coat the manifolds first and then apply a porcelain coat. He texted me photos of some '31 Packard manifolds they had done- beautiful. I'm going to send it to him. I just have to decide whether to do both exhaust and intake- intake manifold pieces look good, not chipping, but focally dull in some areas. I'm afraid that if I only do the exhaust, it might make the intake look bad! Any thoughts?

STempleton for including your '31 Individual Custom Eight Convertible Sedan by Dietrich in the Packard Owner's Registry.
Great looking Packard with an impressive ownership history. I'm sure the "old girl" will enjoy the re-porcelainising enhancing her looks.

I posted some of these photos on another thread about drilling out a broken manifold stud, but thought I should also post here as it completes the journey of re-porcelainizing my 840 manifolds. Prairie Auto Porcelain knocked out of the park. Now hoping that the porcelain finish holds up!

Has anyone had any recent contact with Prairie? I've been trying (unsuccessfully) to get into contact with them. Has anyone used Independence Porcelain down in MO? They're my backup plan.

Independence Porcelain did a great job on my One Twenty manifolds. No miles on them yet. Just engine break in. We'll see how they hold up long term.
