Only one water pump and manifold used on all the 55-6 V8s and the hoses are 1.75" or 45mm. Apparently Packard did use two different hoses but that was a 55 and 56 difference. NO idea what the hose difference might be so possibly they did make a change to make life easier in slipping the hose over the nipple but what Max sells does work and finding anything different today that would work better is probably not going to happen.
The casting for the inlet fitting is rough and hoses do not want to slide over it easily. You might try some silicone spray lube in the hose end and maybe a bit on the manifold side. Liquid dish soap might also work although I think the silicone would be better. Just do not use anything petroleum based as that will deteriorate the rubber.
