The "streamliner" type body was going out of favor by then. I think Chevy dropped it in 1951 or 52.

Quite true, the GM fastback Chevy Fleetline and Pontiac Streamliner diminished significantly in popularity from their 1949 introduction, only the two door carried into 1952 at the end.

This is a custom in the vein many of us would do if we had the skills or the finances to do so. I do wish when they cite a specific design by Pinin Farina including images of it for the enlightenment of the viewer. My first reaction was it was inspired by the both the 1948-'49 Cadillac Series 62 two door sedanette and '52 Bentley Continental R-Type by Mulliner.

Not to be critical, but I think the addition of the 1954 reverse lights below the taillights completes that design. And, raising the rear bumper at least two inches would impart a visual lift to the rear styling.

Whether or not the fastback styling would have been accepted in 1952 is one thing but I do not think that the addition of 1954 backup lights would have added anything to this car, which incidentally I think is gorgeous. 1954 backup lights hadn't been designed yet in 1952 and it's for that very reason that I think the 1954 trunk script is inappropriate. I would have much preferred to see individual block letters such as used on the 1951 hoods.

Yeah I was never wild about the Henry J / Allstate cars. They just were not my cup of tea.

That Photo looks like it was taken at the National Automobile museum in Reno.

The Henry J / Allstates always looked stumpy to me. Much more balanced is the beautiful Bentley Continental and gorgeous PininFarina Packard.

In my humble opinion...That beautiful Packard complete with the manual floor shift, coupled with the 356 would have sold well...to the people who were targets for the Buick 'Banker's Hot Rod' which was the smallest body and the biggest engine...as I remember. Ernie in Arizona
