What always got me on hot rodding, is they buy the nicest car then cut it up to make the hot rod. If you are going to cut one up and put in wheel tubs etc.... Why not get a poorer speciman for the project. There just aren't that many "nice" ones left.

I'm enjoying this build so far, it's a lot of fun and certainly a challenge. I know I've upset a few people and I'm sorry about that but in the end I will have a solid sweet ride my dad can enjoy and I can hand down to my kids someday. And I'm hoping someone will take the engine frame assembly so it doesn't go to waste. I would be happy to post pictures of my progress if anyone is interested. I'm not taking a 70 year old body and just throwing it on a 50 year old frame. The frame and engine assembly I am using is a 2009, it doesn't have all the power and crazy horsepower most people would want for a project like this, it's a simple 4.6 Ford motor, plenty of power with a smooth ride and electronic fuel injection. You guys called the Lincoln town car a meat wagon or something like that, ever driven one? It's like driving on a cloud; and that's what I want for my elderly father. I would prefer to sell the frame and motor as a whole but I'm willing to part out if no one wants the whole thing.

I'm not upset. The Super Clipper is not my favorite. I actually think the smaller hooded cars are better looking and I hate the wrap around grille bars. But to be quite frank I would rather not be seen in one. Driving around in old cars is ridiculous. I love the 1929 and 30 Packards. The look out over the hood from behind the wheel of the 29 is the ultimate. I love the vacuum tank, the one piece manifold, the crash gear box, the cable brakes, the oil slingers that never go bad, and the fact that they will run forever at 40-45 miles an hour. Some people claimed 250,000 miles on those motors. But still, going down the road in those things looks ridiculous. When I see antique cars driving around I think they look ridiculous the same way as wearing plus fours or a cutaway to the grocery store is nuts. So as far as I'm concerned if you don't like the mechanical aspects of those cars you should buy a new car. The engineers cannot understand why people pay so much money for old cars when they are designing such nice new ones. Once you spend some time in the lab you would understand why they feel that way.

I guess it comes down to being on of the herd, or an individual..... I like the simplicity of the older cars, not having to pay out the bottom end to get a mechanic to fix a new car. Not to say owing your soul to car payments all the time.

Maybe 'ridiculous' means different things to different people, but I sure wouldn't use it as an adjective to describe rolling in a fine, antique automobile like a Packard!

I wonder what the Amish in Lancaster would think. To them a 29 or 30 Packard is a Millennium Falcon.

Am I missing something on this thread, did anyone mention price and did anyone buy it?.............seems to have changed subject along the way.
Buy the way, for all of you lovers of traditional architecture, I'm a specialist in building restoration and conservation in England and have worked on buildings such as Buckingham palace, Windsor Castle, 10 & 11 Downing Street and managed all of the facade works on St.Pancras Station which you may recognise from Harry potter.
I think that's enough trumpet blowing for now.
