I ended up buying this car instead: 1940 Packard Custom Super 8 180. Far less $$ than the 34 and in way better shape.

The engine on the 34 looks like it got dragged up from the Titanic recently. And you are right it's a 34 super 8 on a long wheelbase (146.5). At $50k he's dreaming, he's lucky to get half of that; no a cheap engine to rebuild.
