I'm rather torn between the two bumper arrangements but think that I'm favoring the 1953-'54 type. Maybe something in between? I don't know what that might be, though.

How about a bumper similar to the 54 Panthers?

Or remove the bumper over-riders/guards and have a plain bumper together with Packard grill and the Lark mesh?

That is a good idea and follows the rear bumper design without any guards.

The rear bumper is split for a reason but I don't think I would split the front. The rear has something in the split but the front doesn't so to me that would look odd just having a big gap there.

Unless you did do something along the lines of the Panther or Request with Dagmars or modified regular front bumper decorations and recess the front license plate or put some kind emblem in the split.

I vote for the 53-54 front bumper, and also a nice aluminum tube for the air intake with samco or some other turbo hot rod type hose joints instead of the "dryer duct".
Ross, I enjoy watching your work! Now I also know what one can install when one relocates the battery for weight distribution ![]()

After much head scratching and pondering comments, decided to go with the 53 bumper scheme. The grille seemed too prominent for the size of the car. The guards and crossbar obscure it somewhat. Drew a deep sigh and got out the portable bandsaw and welder and cut the bumper supports. Made little fishplates and raised the front bumper 1".
Somehow the appearance seems more unified now and am pretty happy that it looks suitably aggressive without falling prey to Harley Earl style bombast.
