Hey Guys,
I'm new to the forum. Anyways I was changing out the trunk lock emblem on my 54 super clipper, and after I slipped the new emblem over the helmet key hole cover it came off in my hand, the helmet,. Is the helmet key hole cover broken off or is it something I can put back on?!? If it is something that can be put back on, how do you do it?!? If it is not something that can be fixed what is a list of parts I need to buy to fix the situation at hand? Thanks in advance for your help.

It is really unusual to not receive a response to a question on this site. So I'm responding to get the question back at the top of the Recent Forum Topics list. Owen, Howard, Joel, can anyone provide an idea on this one?

It has been many years since I messed with the trunk lock on one of those models but looking at the photos packards1 provided on the ebay item mentioned above, two possibilities for the problem come to mind.

The shield is held to the lock assy by a small brass retainer which serves to hold the spring and also twists onto the pin which is a molded part of the shield to keep everything in place. Since the retainer just pushes and then twists to lock on it is possible it managed to twist off and release the shield and spring. If the retainer or spring has been lost, due to the unique shape I doubt you will find anything like it to replace just that piece. If a regular circlip or E type clip cannot be made to work then replacing the entire assy with the ebay item is probably the option.

If the pin which is a molded part of the pot metal shield has broken off then replacement is the only option.

Here is the shield showing the individual parts. I borrowed the photos from Joel's ebay listing.
