Good Morning...We have a 1949 Packard Deluxe, with the 288 engine. We use the normal unleaded 87 octane fuel in her and have for over eight years...the old girl runs just fine on it...We also keep Marvel Mystery Oil in the fuel, mixed to the instructions on the bottle. We do drive our Packard at least once a week, year around here in the Arizona Desert. It means she is running on fresh fuel and all her gaskets stay nice and moist. Your 1948 will be really happy if you drive her weekly. Ernie in Arizona

Agree with Ernie--just regular pump gas will be fine. Marvel is not a bad idea but I don't bother. You will only need leaded fuel if you plan on towing a heavy trailer in the mountains. Ernie is also correct that driving the car regularly is the cheapest and most effective maintenance.
