Trunk weatherstripping

As I'm working through the list of things to make my car better, I've arrived at the trunk. It leaks, badly, and water gets in when I was the car, etc.
I recall hearing discussion (maybe at Hershey) of some best practices for trunk weatherstripping. Maybe apply it to the trunk lid, vice the trunk frame on the body? Any tips, lessons learned, etc. before I start buying and working? Thanks!

That's what my dad did.
Took out the seal on body. And put one up on lid. He used a different seal.
