Added 5699-1001 to the registry.
Also, I verified that Nat Dawes' 5588-1001 was already registered.

Here's a couple of photos of 5699-1001. First, as it appeared at the 1999 Packard Centennial where it was offered for sale. Next a few shots as it arrived in 2016 for the new (current) owner. And lastly a couple of shots as we began to assess the body structure.
As I said earlier, if it weren't 5699-1001, it probably wouldn't have been saved. Nice to know this info about the cars. I also have the 1956 paint and upholstery showroom album and Salesman's Data Book. Got it when a Packard dealer I knew closed. Saved it ever since. Have the same for 1955. However... whatever the Bill of Lading might show, we can't demote the ECA distributorship. Packard La Brea was merely a Packard dealership and not a "hub to three of his dealerships." Who says that? Let's hear more about this information. This would be interesting as to how this could be. Packard La Brea was simply a dealership located on La Brea Avenue in Los Angeles. It was not even a key dealership in SoCal and was far, far eclipsed by others such as Simonson in Santa Monica (a Mercedes dealership today). Furthermore, La Brea had no connection whatsoever with San Francisco and no particular connection with Earle C. Anthony other than being served by ECA's distributorship. ECA license plate frames were once abundant in California but would never have been on a car sold by Packard La Brea which had their own license plate frames as I have shown here. And for an ECA San Francisco license plate frame to be on a SoCal car would be even farther down the road. Somebody, somewhere along the way may have put the frame with the car or perhaps the car once lived for a time in San Francisco and picked it up there. But a Packard sold via Packard La Brea just would not have ECA license plate frames from anywhere (least of all NorCal), unless somebody added them later. In fact, Packard La Brea succeeded the ONLY Packard dealership EVER in SoCal that was not originally associated under the distributorship of Earle C. Anthony... originally defied ECA for a while. This information is in an article I wrote for The Packard Cormorant magazine a few years ago. The purpose and responsibility of distributorship was the intermediary between the dealers and the factory. It was well above the level of a dealership. The distributorship was responsible for obtaining cars and parts from the factory, regional service training, parts warehousing and distribution, pricing policies for the region, sales training, sales promotion and regional advertising. Beyond this, dealers were responsible for their own activities and their own advertising, unless in a special co-op program sponsored by the distributor. Just because a dealer was serviced by Earle C. Anthony, Incorporated, did not make that dealer the property of Mr. Anthony, nor his corporation.

The chassis and engine, etc. of this Caribbean are currently restored according to what the owner told me a while back. I know the owner and he lives in Sweden. We've had dinner together there. The photos I have look quite nice. What remains to be done is the body, which will take some serious love, skill, attention, time (and of course funds). Here is a photo of 5699-1001 chassis and engine restored (with generator arm turned backwards and #1 carb choke shield missing). By the way, this Caribbean is NOT the first 1956 Caribbean (which I knew well and rode in when new) but rather is the first PRODUCTION 1956 Caribbean. There is a difference.

Hello, I have a question regarding the engine for 5699-1001. I am friends with the most recent owner of 5699-1001. He bought it in a package containing it, 5699-1210 and a '56 400 donor car. He wants to sell me 5699-1210 with as many parts as possible.
5699-1210 was disassembled almost entirely during the late 90's by a T. Ullman here in Sweden, however it was auctioned off a few years ago after he ended up getting dementia. Afterwards it ended up in the possession of the person who owned 5699-1001 and the donor 400. When it was auctioned off there were plenty of parts for the engine present. The issue is however, that now when having gone through the parts for it that remain today, the majority of them are nowhere to be seen. Only few pieces remain out of what was originally with it, and the crankshaft which was still there is for an Edsel 410 engine, previous owner seems to have two crankshafts though (no idea whether they are correct). So, then, my question is, is it possible any of the parts that came with the engine for 5699-1210 were used up in the restoration of the engine for 5699-1001? Or did my friend simply get fooled when he bought the 3 cars as a package? I can list what remains (that I've found thus far) and also link the auction page which has the pictures if it would be helpful.
