Packard service letter Vol 9 Number 10

Does anyone have the aforementioned letter? It's not in our index here, and the AACA library doesn't have it.

I'm pulling the radiator out of my 120 this weekend, with the front clip intact. I think I have a clear path (pull hood, hood support rods, water pump, then gently unbolt and yank out radiator!), based on some old post on the forum, just thought I would try and look at the service letter since it specifically mentions it.

Thanks!

Here it is but I had to reduce size so the quality may have suffered.

Also- the service letter says not pulling the front clip saves 36 minutes???? More like about a day!

Hi Ken,
Yes, there isn't enough that can be said about working on these cars with the clip-be-gone! I've had mine off a couple of times and putting it back on the second time, went pretty smoothly. Howard (HH56) gave me a tip on the big bolt at the bottom, center of the rad support that I didn't realize; that being, to pay special attention to the number of washer shims and their overall thickness, as that determines the alignment of the hood clearance/body lines. Mine had a big fender washer top and bottom with a bunch of what looked like canvas shims in between. They had become compacted over the years and on the 2nd R&R I paid more attention to Howard's advice, added a bit more thickness, and got a really nice fit on everything when reassembled. You're probably already on to that, but thought I'd toss it out there for any 'clip-1st-timers'!! LOL Chris.

Thanks for the tip! Sharing info never hurts.

I love working on the car without the clip, but right now my garage measures 13x23, so there is not room to have the clip pulled and still get everything in the garage! I was able to pull the radiator last night, without pulling the front clip, and it was quite a bit easier than I thought it would be.
