52 mascot wings

Greeting, new to the Packard world, just got a 52 Mayfair and learning as I go. Shop manual ordered(and viewed here), have a question about the wings on the mascot. The wings are loose but seem like they might be spring loaded, but I can also see where someone in past has put some glue on them. My concern is one coming off, cracking the windshield and putting me in the market for another mascot. I believe it is original. Chrome body and wings. Should I be concerned about them being a little bit wiggley? Thanks in advance for any input!

Please post a photo but if it’s the original, they are held on by a wedge underneath. You have to remove it from the car, remove the body from the base and the tabs on the wings with the wedge between should be visible. Just gently tap it back into place.

G'day Ray, to PackardInfo. I'd be more concerned about cracking the windshield!

Apart from that, I invite you to include your '52 Mayfair in the Packard Vehicle Registry.

Yes, it's an original so just follow the outline I provided and I'm sure you'll find that the wedge has worked itself loose or it wasn't put in tightly when restored.

Thanks, next question, I assume it is attached to the trim strip on the hood and that the whole thing has to be removed, can you confirm? I'm finding the shop manual is not as descriptive as I'd like. Thanks

If I understand your question correctly, yes - to get to the underside of the hood ornament you'll need to first remove it from the hood.

I see a line of screws down the center of the underside of the hood but nothing more substantial as I have seen on other cars under the mascot. I guess what I am asking is it attached to that strip and then the strip is attached to the hood? I'd rather not be unscrewing any more 70 year old screws than necessary.
