Hello, please help
Twin coil system - should both coils be live and work together or should they work independently as I cannot get power thru one of the coils?
Thank you Ross

Each coil has its own independent set of points and condenser, each uses a different end of the double-ended rotor, and each controls 4 cylinders independent of the second coil and its associated components. In essence you have two independent 4-cylinder ignition systems sharing a common but divided distributor body.

G'day RossMalcolm,
to PackardInfo. Good to see another Aussie on board. Speaking of Aussies. Have you seen the '35 Coupe which is on loan and should currently be on display in the Gold Coast Motor Museum? I think that will have a similar coil/ignition system to your '34? If not, I'm sure someone will correct me! The owner of that Coupe is listed in your PACA Member Register, living at Tallabudgera if you need to contact him.

Also, I invite you to include your '34 Super Eight Sedan in the Packard Vehicle Registry. I realise it's already included in the Registry - HERE! But, after you include your entry I'll update that entry to cross reference the new entry and to update the status of that entry.

Mal, the NorthEast dual coil ignition system I've described is unique to only the 1933 and 1934 Eights and Super Eights.

Dave, once again I stand corrected!

OK, in that case Ross, suggest you peruse your PACA Member Register and contact other PACA members with '33 or '34 Packards similar to yours.

Ross,
for including your '34 Super Eight Sedan in the Packard Vehicle Registry. I've taken the liberty of adding a photo, taken from Terry's Registry entry, of the car until you replace it with your own. I've also cross referenced each Registry entry with the other.
