Help PLEASE 1930 super 8 exhaust manifold

Hi All,
Really need some help here. I am having problems with replacing the exhaust manifold on my 1930 Super 8 7-40. I purchased a manifold, but the throttle linkage attachment does not line up. The manifold currently on the car has the throttle linkage attached right next to the lower pipe flange. The one I received has no mounting holes near the exhaust flange, only two holes on the left side bottom of the intake manifold. Why does this not match! What am I missing here? I have circled in red the differences between the two manifolds.

It looks like the exhaust manifold currently on the car is wrong, and at some point the linkage has been bastardized to work. To see how it should look, see:

On my 31, the linkage attaches to the underside of the point you've noted on intake manifold. Take a overall picture of the carburetor side of the engine bay to show everyone what you're working with.

It looks like someone put a 29 manifold on the car. Check out the photos in:

What you bought will probably work just fine, you'll just need to either find or make the linkage bits to straighten everything out. There are very few problems money can't solve in the world of Packard....ask that man that owns one.

While the linkage in the Southeby's car is the correct system, there is a lot wrong with that engine compartment. It is not a good reference. The people at places like Southeby's are paid very high salaries to not know what they are talking about.

As well, there are a couple of those things floating around with the same story and no pictures. When Turnquist bought cars he always took pictures.

Agree. I also noted that the on the '29, while the linkage is the same, the intake portion of the manifold is rounded. On the '30 it is squared off. So both manifolds have the same squared intake portion, but the linkage is different.

Another question I have here...does anyone have a referral for someone / company that does porcelain coating work? I am going to need to get that new exhaust a porcelain job before installing it!

Prairie Porcelain, but beware because unless the car is strictly for show it won't hold up. The intake side will, but the exhaust part will not given the alcohol in gasoline is making those motors run hotter because of a slower burn rate.

Nobody is deducting anymore for that so the alternative is black powder coating which is also safer as regards cracked manifolds.

Really...wow. I never thought of the powder coating option because I want to keep the car as original as possible. Does the powder coating hold up under the extreme heat on the exhaust portion of the manifold?
