At rear of the seat, at the bottom, there are two screws which screw rearward about 4” apart in line with the arm rest. At the top of the seat there are tabs that the upper back cushion hangs on.

Thanks for your response, Joe, I was being too gentle - it came right out! Interesting that you said 2 screws, as mine had 3.
