Thanks ac

I tried an exacto saw. Cause it thin

But there is a glaze or something in there

So was thinking of putting in the lathe and take a cut.

To open up slots.

The other armature going to try to press the winding.

Not sure if it will move but .. Going to try.

Started to clean commutator.

To much time.

Took the new armature to press

It pushed something back.

But had to shorten the shaft.

Then end piece still wouldn't seat.

So cut commutator back. Still didn't seat.

The shaft for bearing end cap. Is smaller than the armature windings.

So cut that down. And back to commutator

Things fit.

Tomorrow. Assemble. And see if any shorts. From pressing.

Last picture. That end stuff had to come off..

Varnish and metal.

The armature out of starter was cut back.

Cutting the mica is a ten minute job and the shaft surfaces of the original look far better than those on the replacement anyway

No way is that a 10 job

It took longer than that. The one I did.

Started another and whatever is on there is tough to get thru.

Maybe if I put it in the lathe and polished it then tried.

But that is tough stuff

I've done my model train motors. Those you can do easily.

That white dust is something.
Not carbon from brushes.

But going with new for now.

It might not work. So I might have to sucked it up. And clean up the one that came out of starter .

Thanks for the input..

Damn. These phones suck.
Write what i write you damn phone. F.

2 hours later..

Cleaned all segments.

Armature on left.

But don't think its delco. Packard.

This armature is bigger. Around.

Starter came off my 56 Packard parts car.

Edit.

My starter off 400 his a cast plate and..

This is metal. With linger bearing.

This has to be. Gm. Or early Packard.
Or nash.

Solenoid rebuild with parts from denver load.
Parts from different boxes.

The Delco part number should be stamped on the laminated steel part of the armature.
The Delco number for 1955-56 Packard is 1926626.

Db.

Thanks . but no numbers.

Think its a Franken. Starter.

Cause the nuts on case. Are for the brush holders.

No place on case for delco tag.
No holes.

The engine had a nash oil pump.

Update starter.
Screwed up that one armature.
.
Franken starter is in and works really well.

Brake switch. Mine gave up again.

So. Bought Carquest, standard. Note. Not for silicone

Autozone Duralast no note.. But they do give up.

So did a search.

There are brake switches that work with silicone.

I know Harley Davidson use silicone
... So bought switch for a Harley.

And there is another. So bought that in case Harley gives up.
