Oval taillights, wouldn't this make it a 23rd Series? Later 49/50? Maybe just a typo in the post but might make a difference when searching for parts.

The a-frame type mount was used up to 1950 and somehow did a good job of supporting the engines. Thee two tiny screws did no actual supporting but simply held the mount assembly together.

Looks like nice work but if you’re going for authenticity, you made an interesting choice of colors as I believe the engine and transmission should be grey with the a-frame being the same color. Basically, the engine and transmission were painted as a unit so was all one color.

There is a factory photo showing assembly of a 22-23 series car. The front and part of the engine is visible and shows some of what is gray. As others said, the engine and trans were painted as an assy so if you do stock, except for black bolt on items added farther down the line almost everything on the engine and trans is gray.

The colors chosen for this resto are pretty nifty, IMHO.

If the crank was at spec, then must be low miles? Odometer reading?
I suspect since it was not a wear issue, that maybe one or more valves or rings were stuck giving the "0" compression and may have avoided a rebuild. ie; it had to turn over to get those figures. No signs of cracks or other causes/leaks were noted.
Starting fresh is good, no issue, just curious. My '49 odo was around 45K, reportedly sat 5 years, and it ran just fine after resurrection. Took about a month to get it all repaired. Slight valve noise in need of adjustment but idled nicely and quietly at 400 with no overheat. Glad I didn't tear motor down. I was deciding whether to restore or hot rod. I drove it around the neighborhood for a while before tearing it apart as it sits.

that it looks like a 1950 23rd Series Packard. Can you provide the numbers on the ID plate on the cowl/cowel? ie 23xx-5-xxxx or 23xx-xxxx or 22xx-9-xxxx or 22xx-xxxx are all possibilities. That should assist in the identification.

And, I invite you to include your Packard, once the identification is tied down, in the Packard Vehicle Registry.

I'll pull the VIN over the weekend and post it here. Thanks for all the info in ID'ing the vehicle.

In terms of the engine/tranny color, while battleship grey is my favorite color (true story) I decide to have a little fun under the the hood. Figured it couldn't hurt for a car in its 70's and is going to be more show than go in its second round of life.
