Just turned 30. I got my first packard, a 55 clipper, for my birthday!

I had hopes of going to Perrysburg/Fremont this year but daughter number one is going to the prom and graduating that week. Maybe we can catch up at another meet this summer.

Just turned 55

I've been a car nut since the age of ..I dunno..5?
I had a chance to buy a 1952 Packard (model?) back in 1969 when I was in junior high..the price was $120. My dad said "Why would you want one of those? The tires on them are huge!"
So a few years later I drove by a classmate's house and there was the '52 parked next to his house..

65 in March. Parents and grandparents owned Packards. Packard service garage was enroute from my grandparents home to movie theatres and drugstores in small west Texas oilfield town where born. Became nuisance there well before age of 10. Always liked cars but couldn't get enough of Packards. Company gone before I acquired first car ('39 Chevy Master Deluxe, 2 door coach w/54,000 miles). Went into service at 17 and, as someone else stated, "life got in the way," of my love-affair with Packards. Fell in with wrong crowd in early '60s in N.E. Arkansas and started hanging out at George Ray's outlaw dragstrip in Paragould, AR. Too many junk cars converted to 1/4 mile purpose to enumerate. Drivers (as best I can recall) were '39 Chevy, '58 Hillman Minx, '66 Caprice Classic (396 w/350TH), '69 Plymouth Roadrunner, '67 Caddy Fleetwood, 70 Impala, '71 Caddy Fleetwood, '73 Pylymouth Satellite Sebring +, '73 Coupe DeVille, '74 Coupe DeVille, '75 Chrysler NY Brougham, '74 (maybe '75) El Dorado, '78 Fleetwood Brougham, '82 Fleetwood Brougham, '87 Isuzu I-Mark, '92 Dodge Spirit, '93 Dodge Stealth ES, '95 Infiniti J-30, '97 Infiniti J-30, 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis and FINALLY (never having forgotten), in early 2004, a 1955 Packard Patrician. I drive it and it was undergoing (before I retired and ran out of money) what started out to be a restoration. I have since modified it a little and continue to refurbish and work on it as time, money and downtime (it is presently the only car I own) permit. With their oiling problems seen to and proper care and feeding these cars make GREAT daily drivers, both in town and on the road.

Grew up under cars, handing spanners to dad as he repaired the family transport, his 39 Oldsmobile, and later his 50 Packard (including engine rebuild). He had always worked on his own vehicles since his first bike, a 1924 Triumph.

Joined PACA in 1967 as an associate member and fell in love with the cars and the story.
Teens saw the extension of dad's mechanical coaching with me owning a string of Holdens (Australia'a GMH brand, most Aussies will recognise the models) #1 was 57 Ute $40.00, #2 a 56 FJ Sedan $50.00, 59 Panel Van, 64EH Wagon, 59 FC that got the EH engine, disc brakes front end, XU1 wheels. Last of this generation was an HQ Sedan. Always playing at getting more grunt out of their 6 cyl engines.
Our 30ft x 30ft backyard was littered with car parts, the workshop was the street and a small shed in the yard!
Tried to restore a 56 Clipper as a 20 y.o. - the rust eventually beat me and my earning capacity to keep up.
Worked on dad's hobby - 39 1702 and still have it.

Got a company car at age of 21 and started chasing girls and not cars (big mistake, for a while)
Mortgage, family, own business and lots of modern vehicles (played with Saabs and now onto my 7th? Subaru) doing big miles. Combination had kept me time, space and money poor for Packards - but the bug doesn't die, just repressed!

Back into it with an imported 56 400 as daily driver and keen to get the 39 to body off and rebuilt.

Hi all. This is my first post on this forum, which is great - really informative. I am 45, and a long time hobbyist. We recently acquired a '39 Packard 120 - our first, but probably not last Packard. Loved them for years and was fascinated by a friend of my dad's '34 DCP that came out of a garage in the central CT area in the late 70s.

Prior collector cars owned:

1941 Plymouth 2-door sedan
1971 Chevy Camaro
1969 Chevy Chevelle 2-door
1956 Chevy 210 2-door sedan
1971 Chevy Corvette Roadster
1948 Chevy Coupe
1939 Chevy 4-door sedan
(see a pattern?)

1973 Triumph TR-6
1930 Ford Model A Tudor
1968 Olds Cutlass Convt.

But clearly, the Packard is the best so far...

66, Car nut as long as I can remember. Got my first Packard in 1976 a 1922 model which I still have plus a 1929 633 Roadster and 1929 633 Sedan. Hoping to kick the habit but the prospects are not good. Perhaps us Aussies could take the lead and start an "Oldcaraholics Anonymous", think of the money we would save.

I am starting to feel really old. I am so close to 70 that it is not funny. Bought my first Packard in 1990, it is a 1937 120 touring sedan and I still drive it regulary. I also have a 34 Club sedan and a 37 super 8 club sedan. Like David I have thought about kicking the habit but the prospects are not good. I don't think that Davids idea of having a club to help us reform would work. I would have to hold the meetings in the shed and thats full of Packards. There's no hope for us.
