Fifth Series SIX - TOO much oil pressure!!!!

Most people struggle with low oil pressure.
This engine reportedly was rebuilt about 8 years ago.
It seems to run fine, but at low rpm it is at close to 60 pounds.
I suspected the gauge on the instrument panel so I bypassed it and installed a new gauge at the back of the engine.

I have removed the bypass valve assembly which is controlled by the choke and did not find an obstruction.

Initially I had 10w-30 oil and tried 5w20 with no real difference.

I know there is an adjustment down in the oil pump. Would that have total control of the pressure?

I do not have an oil filter installed, so what is the down side of high oil pressure?

Any help would be appreciated.

What is your engine's operating temperature?

?

Generally speaking, high oil pressure is not a problem, but if extreme, it can cause increased oil consumption. It's possible that an internal oil line is plugged or an insert bearing (s) spun or installed wrong, but that's very unlikely

The car has a motometer and did not run hot. Next time I will use a laser for the temp.

A cold running engine will show higher than normal oil oil pressure. Engines need to run at about 180 F at the coolant outlet. Up to 200 F is OK.
