However, I invite you to include your '56 Patrician in PackardInfo's Packard Vehicle Registry.

These are nearly impossible to find although Max Merritt has reproductions. Just be prepared with a second mortgage to buy them. The same mirror was also sometimes installed onto the fender and the original drilling template worked for either location.

These were two part with a steel base and special screw that mounted to the car, then the mirror was affixed to it. Note that the proper mirrors have a recessed boss on the bottom while the 1951-1954 type had a boss that stuck out slightly. They looked much the same but were not interchangeable.

Thanks for bringing me back to reality. I know it was wishful thinking on my part.
The ones on the car now look great, it's just that the mirrors are loose and hang down and that spoils the overall look of the car. But I've got an idea on how I can get them in fixed position and make them look presentable.

There are cheapies from China on eBay that look similar to the originals but don’t waste your money. I have a pair and will never be able to bear installing them on even my rough 1956 Clipper!

Yeah I saw the ones on Ebay and was almost tempted but I have the installation instructions for the ones that are on there (PA469482) and when comparing the two could tell that the ones on Ebay are not a suitable replacement.

To me I can't see any reason not to use aftermarket mirror on this era of cars. Most all were sold without a factory installed mirror. Some Caddys came with adjustable mirror that came thru door. All mirrors from this time period were of little real value especially on passenger side. I think most were installed for the bling effect. I think a lotof dealers used mirrors the got from part stores To each his own not a big deal to me
