Owen Dyneto generator brush substitutes

I'm posting this just FYI for future part seekers.

Having looked around this site and others for suggestions on brushes to replace the originals on CD-800/840/865 generators, I couldn't find much information, so decided to put the remainders of my old brushes under a magnifying glass. They are Autolite and I managed to get partial numbers. After further research online, I found they are Autolite GDF-1013 (3/16" thick) for the 3rd brush and Autolite GDF-1012 or GDF-2012S (1/4" thick) for the main and ground brushes. All have to be cut down in width from .883" to .6", but they'll work in these generators and probably other late-20s/early-30s Owen Dyneto.

The GDF-2012S seems to be fairly plentiful on ebay, used on 38-40 DODGE, 38-42 HUDSON, 38-39 PLYMOUTH, 38-40 STUDEBAKER. The GDF-1013 not so much. I managed to find a lot of six of the latter, so if anyone needs a replacement 3rd brush, PM me.

Thanks for the info. No surprise you found AutoLite service parts in your generator, I suspect most all of them do by now as AutoLite bought out Owen-Dyneto, during 1934 IIRC.

Hallo Rob,
looks like my 1931 833 needs new brushes. Can you still help with a GDF-1013 ?

Kind regards
Wolfgang (Germany)

Sorry Wolfgang, haven't visited this site in a little while. Still have the brushes, but looks like you found what you need. Happy motoring!
