Radio Vibrator Noise

How can I quiet this noise coming from the radio vibrator? It is loud before the radio is even warmed up.

(Ignore me trying to adjust the radio preset one-handed.)

Some noise is normal. It should come from the vibrator itself, and not from the speaker. Having the radio mounted properly may reduce the noise. Some vibrators were installed with sponge rubber sleeves to reduce the noise. The radio needs good ventilation to get rid of heat. Vibrator noise coming from the speaker indicates a bad capacitor or a missing capacitor, or perhaps a poor ground or a problem with the antenna or the antenna cable.

Thanks. I actually re capped this whole radio. I can check, maybe something is wrong in that circuit. But the rest of the radio seems to work fine, so I'd be surprised.

It's definitely coming through the speaker here.

There may be a small capacitor inside the vibrator can. If it goes bad, you'll get noise at the speaker.
I replaced one years ago, and I recall that it was a low MFD value 1600 V rating. I replaced it with a 600 V and it failed after a few weeks. The cans aren't made to be opened, but I don't see why putting a fractional MFD, high V capacitor across the vibrator points wouldn't work. Some vibrators may have dual points. It's possible you could find Sam's Photofact manuals online, or a car radio specialist might be able to advise you.

I already have the Photofact manual. Actually gave it to Kev to add here and now it's in the lit archive also.

I'll double check my wiring.
