I recently found two very rough prewar Junior convertibles (1938 120, 1939 Six) through an ad placed on Facebook Marketplace. The seller was the grandson of the owner who had passed away over a year ago. Neither Packard was restorable due to very extensive rust, but both have many useable parts unique to convertible models. A friend from Massachusetts is restoring both a 1938 120 Convertible Coupe and a 1939 120 Convertible Coupe and he decided to purchase both vehicles as parts cars to complete his projects. This past week, we journeyed to Rocky Top, Tennessee to retrieve the cars. Upon arrival, the decision was made to bring the entire 1938 120 back to Massachusetts, but to only salvage some components from the 1939 Six. In addition, a complete date coded 1939 Six engine and several excellent Six wheel rims were removed and purchased from a bare chassis also stored in the facility. The trip took three days, including about an entire day spent stripping parts from the Six Convertible Coupe. Below are some pictures I took during the expedition. I hope you enjoy them.
