Some cars with the WCFB had holes drilled in the manifold to let heat from the hotbox on the manifold up onto the base of the carb to prevent carb icing on cold foggy mornings. You don't have it, you don't need it, you don't want extra heat especially with today's volatile fuels. So you can face the gasket any way that you wish. If your manifold does have those holes in it, orient the spacer and gasket to block them.
