You need to make it "the wife's" car.

Then it will always:

I need to go work on YOUR car....
I need to buy this part for YOUR car....

😀

Spoken from experience I see...lol.

I'm slowly making progress. The kids are already on board, so they are now participating in the pressure campaign. Honestly too many projects going on right now so not sure if adding another to the stable is the wisest thing.

Had a day with really nice weather, and it happened to line up with an early day off from work. So I pushed Rusty out of the way, got the Panama started, and took it out for a nice drive with one of my daughters. Ran some errands then opened the car up for some 60mph driving on straight country roads. Performed well. I stopped to grab a quick picture with some nice early winter background.

Not many days left in the year for this. I don't know when the next time is that I'll be able get out and drive the Panama. By the way, my kids have started to refer to the car as "Van Halen" because of their song "Panama". I think that name may stick. Definitely better than "Blueberry".

Your car is looking magnificent. You know I drive mine in all weather. Have to. It’s my only car now. But Van Halen is splendiforous!

We had quite a few parties and gatherings in the shop this month. We held our work Christmas party in it with 30 people, which means the Packards had to move out. We played musical cars and shifted everything around so the Packards could be kept out of the weather for a few weeks. Now that the parties are done it was time to put the cars back in. So I took the opportunity to let both get up to operating temperature before I put them back where they belong.

The Super 8 idles fine but runs poorly under load. I tested first gear up and down the driveway and it's not great. I'll dig into it in Spring when I can get it back on the road.

Hi,

I'm new in this forum, and I write for France.

I come to buy a Panama sold new in France in 1954.

Curiously, this car was registred without date from put into circulation on the french gray card.

This car was first owner Ambassador of Paraguay in France, which could explain this anomaly.

The serial number is 3004, and I would like to know approximately its date of manufacture.

The counter is in kilometers, and it is very likely that it was delivered by Barbezat.

It is equipped to the French standards of 1954, with reversing lights and glass reflectors.
Thank you for your help and happy Christmas

Sincerely

Gauthier

I'll try to answer with as much information as possible as to not thread-jack Kevin's project blog:

Your car was 1004th one produced. Which would be somewhat early production. The best place to look is the engine casting number on the bottom, passenger side of the engine block towards the back. Your car would have been produced at least as few weeks after that date. Given that in was early production, I would imagine somewhere between Sept and the end of the year 1953. Being an export car, it would probably have been a special order. Many times the export cars were fitted with different equipment, such as lower compression pistons and heavy duty shocks.

Here is a sample information sheet for your car:

G'day Panama80,
Although it's being this your first post, it's to PackardInfo.

Again, even though it's also I invite you to include your '54 Panama in PackardInfo's Packard Vehicle Registry.

Kevin, please forgive my intrusion into your Blog, but when it comes to new Forum Members and a chance to have them list their Packard/s in the Registry I have to take every opportunity as it arises. Sorry

No worries guys, thanks for answering his questions.

And welcome Gauthier. That '54 Panama looks like a great project. Start a project blog on here and we can help you through the restoration process.
