Nice. Could be my imagination or maybe just camera angle but the square holes where the handle shafts pass and connect to the mechanism look a bit rounded. Wear there and on the shafts could also cause a bit of droop in the handles.

That's just the thin sheet metal cover. Inside there is a brass casting that has a square hole where the handle shaft engages. But yes, those do wear and also cause the droopy handles. The square in mine appear to still be more square then round.

Nice...I'll be cleaning up my door latches once they are removed from the car.

I resolve my droopy handles by judiciously heating the tang of the handle in a vice and applying a bit of twist to the shaft to compensate for wear in the mechanism and remove the droop. Just have to keep the heat from the handle itself and be gentle with the twist. Peter T

Flack and I were just talking yesterday about that inner brass part. It pretty common amongst all the Packard handles that use that style shaft. So it could be something worth looking at reproducing.

Other option besides that, or putting a twist in the shaft, would be brazing or soldering the hole, and then filing it back to square.

Discussions with the Flackmaster are always value. He has done a lot for Packards in the US and elsewhere. IHMO, fixing the brass part is like the Government fixing one part of a problem, but other contributing problems are not addressed and the result is mediocre. If you fix the combined wear output droop then you fix the accumulation of wear that results in the droop. Just my 2 Cents worth. Pick any droop? Peter T
