On the Prewar cars, especially the earlier ones, I can't tell the difference between a Phaeton or a Touring. To me, they look exactly the same. Even some of the Packards from the teens through the 30s there would be both a phaeton and a touring in the same chassis model. To me they look exactly the same body-wise. Perhaps something different with the seating.

The Touring and Phaeton cars were of essentially the same design, and equipped with the same style of tops. The main difference is just in wheelbase; Phaeton was longer than Touring, though this was apparently not a universal rule. The Phaeton also came as a 4-passenger version, though I don't know what the difference was. See pp. 13-14packardinfo.com/xoops/html/downloads/1913_1-38_SalesFolder.pdf

The Phaeton was also my favorite model of Volkswagen being a luxury car that when new topped $100k for the W12 all wheel drive version. Audi’s equivalent A8 L didn’t hold a candle to the Phaeton! Of course, both were 4-door sedans.
