It's a bit confusing or misleading as the assembled car that is shown is not what is being sold. It's either a parts car or whatever is left of the assembled car. As for rare, I've only ever seen one or two of them and only in photos and the same with the Custom Eight long wheelbase sedans and limousines. There was one for sale not long ago just a few miles from my Oregon shop but I forced myself to not attend the sale or I might own it now!

The ad is written in French and I guess I missed the "sans mechanique" part which translates to "without mechanicals". If the engine and trans is missing, it is obviously a big deal but the upside here is that the seller doesn't want very much money for the car, it is doable and it is a really rare model. I have always really liked the bathtub club sedans and did one own one; a 22nd series Super Eight. But it was pretty ragged abd I eventually sold it. In this case, you would definitely need to contact the owner to find out what is included and what's missing. You might also need someone fluent in French. I took French in high school, but that was over 50 years ago and I've unfortunately forgotten most of it. My thought is that the picture of the car with the flamed hood is just an older photo taken before it was disassembled.

Very easy and accurate to converse over Facebook Messenger and use Google Translate.

That’s what the ad says

Translation to english: "Packard Super 8 1949 Fastback, Old School Look, without mechanics, complete and solid to restore. The vehicle was disassembled to redo it. Everything is there. Price: $2950 For info [hidden information] I am located at 129 Principale Nord, Windsor, Qc. J1S 2E1 Last photos before disassembly. P.S. Don't tell me it's not a Pontiac, I know it. There is no Packard option in the ads. Only the nonos will mention it. Ha! Ha!"

Don't know what a 'nono' means, but my guess is that it's not nice.

In the Romance languages generally, there are a number of words that are similar in English but are not differentiated. For example in Spanish and French, depending on context, safe = secure, mechanic = mechanical, etc. So Google Translate made a small mistake in that it should have said “mechanicals”.

And “nonos” means like “morons”.

Just spotted these on FB Marketplace:

1940 160 Super Eight Sedan. Ad just posted today. In storage many years. Rough unrestored but sheet metal looks really straight. Might be better as a parts car. Lots there. Engine intact but not running. Asking $2,500. Westbury, NY which is out on the North Shore of Long Island, NY. This is a very high-income area. I'm sure there were a lot of Packards out there back in the pre-war days:

1949 (22nd Series) Deluxe Eight Club Sedan. Solid unrestored. Chrome and interior look pretty decent but car really needs a paint job. Not running but ad states engine is free. Asking $5K. Holland, MI:

1941 110 Sedan. Original car in solid black. Looks like a really decent driver with presentable paint and interior. Ad has a video of car being driven, so it is a runner. Ad states car needs new tires as the current ones are dry rotted. Seller looking for offers. Albuquerque, NM:

facebook.com/marketplace/item/9134237386638038

1942 Clipper Eight Touring Sedan. Needs full restoration but this one actually looks doable as I do not see any really bad rust on the body. It's complete down to the hubcaps. Has an accessory sunvisor. Car runs and drives. Ad states car is a Super Eight but it is on the short wheelbase so it is an Eight. Stanwood, WA.

facebook.com/marketplace/item/1638355107106134/?

1942 110 Convertible Coupe. Extremely solid unrestored original with original, though somewhat ragged, interior. You could drive this car as is and probably be ok with it. It's that nice. Data plate indicates a delivery date of 6-23-43 so it must have been sold to someone with a high priority connection to the war effort as all unsold cars were impounded by the government in early 1942 and could only be sold with authorization from the Office of Price Administration (OPA). This car is a real piece of history and hope that someone on our site will consider buying it. Seller asking $28K. Phoenix, AZ:

facebook.com/marketplace/item/1104665931383522/?

1941 120 Convertible Coupe. Fully restored in dark blue with a matching top and grey interior. This car is just stunning. Asking $59,999. Scottsdale, AZ:
