Very good how-to! As for the door locks being more accurate, I’m not sure how true that is but the ignition tumbler usually has the key code stamped onto it so I prefer making the key to that, then testing on the doors. If the original door tumblers, I’ve found this to always work with keys that fit as they should.

Hi mwmentin,
I've decided to re-key the door locks on my '54 and you mentioned that it was easy to pop the lock cylinders out of the door handles in the beginning of this thread. "I started out by removing the lock cylinder from the driver door. This was a rather easy process, and the lock cylinder popped right out. (If needed, I would be happy to go into detail on this step)" That would be great as I really don't want to remove the door handles to re-key the locks. Just how did you do it? Detailed instructions would be really helpful. Thanks, Les
