As I have been cleaning and dissembling the car, I have found several parts that have had the VIN of the car hand written on them.

Here are the sidemount brackets.

That is the body number, not the vehicle number (VIN). Your car has the 45th 4-passenger phaeton body assembled. The Vehicle Number is located on the brass plate attached to the engine side of the firewall. You should also find your body number on a small brass plate attached to the front passenger-side floorboard.

I suspect that the numbers were put there by a previous restoration shop. A huge job like this with so many complicated parts in an age when taking individual photographs would likely be prohibitive needed some way to associate the bits away from any other project ongoing in the shop at the same time as it would likely take months if not years to complete. By the condition of the car, a very high class shop was involved in the previous work. A very smart way to file and sort the job.

Bob, per the OP, car has never been restored, and went into storage in the 1970s.

I acknowledge your point Ken, I based my opinion on this information from Stan in the start of the thread. Due to the current excellent condition of the car, a very good job was done on the work at that time of the respray and may have been the origin of the number tagging. It is only a suspicion on my part as I cannot see the assembly process at Packard taking the time to tag each part as it would be on an order sheet BOM for production. It is none the less a very interesting part of the car's history and wonderful that it has been noted and photographed for posterity.
I am really enjoying this project, thanks so much Stan for sharing!

Bob, that makes sense, and I forgot it had been repainted!

It's a beautiful car, and I, too, am enjoying the journey!
