Robert Turnquist’s estimate of how many 840 four passenger coupes were made is 103. See “The Packard Story,” page 70. He guestimated this by using the serial numbers of remaining known cars. In 1931 serial numbers were a three digit body style number (478 for the 840 coupe) followed by a sequential series number. The highest series number of the surviving cars indicates approximately how many were made.
