He has those, too. He is just really meticulous.

There has been a lot of progress on my car this week. The bottoms of the front doors were rusted out, but hat has now been repaired and primed. The doors are looking great. They also started on the floor pan. One small area has been cut out and replaced. The larger area that was totally rusted out has been removed and a new piece is being fabricated.

The front clip has now been primed and everything fitted to the car. It's really looking good.

They also started tearing down the center divider so it can be reupholstered. When they did, they found a couple of surprises. One was a stack of 15 old playing cards that I've been able to date to the 1940s. The other is a Kansas City City Hall coin/token. I'm not having a lot of luck finding out the history of the coin, but construction of the city hall building was completed in 1937. It is just one more piece of the puzzle about the history of my car and whether or not it did belong to Bryce B Smith who was mayor of Kansas City from 1930 to 1939....all during the height of the Pendergast Machine era.

There doesn’t seem to be much information available regarding the Kansas City coin/token. It appears these are bronze and they were made to commemorate city events. I have found two versions that have the city hall building on one side. One of them is stamped with 1850 and 1950 on both sides and was issued to commemorate the centennial of Kansas City, Missourii.

The other one, that I have, would seem to have likely been issued in 1937 as it has no date and the city hall building construction was completed in 1937. Construction had started in 1935.

So, that doesn’t necessarily support that my car belonged to the mayor, but it is very likely that the mayor would have had one of these tokens. It does provide a little more history of my car spending its time in KC.

I did find that the city hall building opened on October 25, 1937. The building is a great example of Art-Deco.

At my request, Kevin has changed the title of my blog. I had thought about it before, but then when I realized tonight just how close the blog title was to Don Koller’s blog and that we both have a 138CD limo, it just made sense.

When I started my blog, I was very new to everything Packard and to this site. As a result, I didn’t even think to check that I was very nearly duplicating another blog title.

Hopefully, this will help avoid any confusion for other down the road..

I found a part I was looking for and thought I'd put it out here for anyone else who may need them. I am in need of some replacement screws for my door hinges. they are 5/16-24 x 1 in with an undercut head.

I could find flat head screws with the correct threads, but not with the undercut head. I could also find undercut heads, but not with the correct threads. That was leading me to having to buy screws and cut down the heads.

Then, I found these. They are 1/8in shorter, but should work fine since the originals have about 1/8in of a pointed end.

Certainly worth a try! The pointed end is more of an alignment tool than anything else so as long as you can get one started, the others should be easy.

That’s the hope. I figured the point was for rapid alignment on the assembly line.

I just noticed that they don’t have the shoulder as the original so it will be the threads supporting the door, although they’re still probably sufficient.

Correct. I noticed that as well. I think it will be fine. About the only way to get something that is 100% correct would be to make them from scratch. Certainly do-able, but I don’t think it would be worth the trouble.
