It turned out that the problem was caused by an improper wire spring clamp on the vacuum feed at the rear of the carburetor. Changing to a modern band and screw type solved the problem. I would not use recommend their use. I had them on my 55 radiator both upper and lower, and replaced both. They leaked. Happy Posted on: Today 6:52

If it does, then either the hose is old and too hard or it’s too large but either way, they should be replaced. Posted on: Today 11:15

People replace them only since they are a pain to use. They are indeed a pain to use. I replaced all of them with modern clamps when I did the heater hoses, for that reason alone. I will also say that I used correct 3/8" ID for the big vacuum lines to the brakes, and it is not tight enough without a clamp (Corbin or others). There was an audible leak with no clamp. The smaller lines hold without a clamp fine. Posted on: Today 13:00
