I’ve been working for some time on a brake issue (discussed here:packardinfo.com/xoops/html/modules/newbb ... c_id=29091&start=10#forumpost284868). Disassembling both wheels I’ve finally tracked down the root problem: the female end of the universal joint connecting the brake actuator on the side that was disconnected is damaged (see picture below with damaged part on the right).
I took the part to a local guy recommended by some people in my car club but he was unable to help - he couldn’t reproduce the shape and also the piece is of hardened steel, which he cannot do. I wonder if anybody has any recommendations on someone who might be able to help with this? My biggest fear is sending it to someone who is not motivated to do it, or can’t, and it just sits around on their shelf for months with my car remaining inoperable. So any leads on somebody who’s good, and responsive, would be very appreciated. Thanks.

Spencer B., a few suggestions on machine shops that may be able to help. If you haven't already, you may want to try some of the spare / NOS sites listed below. If you work with a machine shop, you'll need a CAD model or engineering drawing or print of the part for them to quote and work to. Some shops can also 3D scan or reverse engineer a part, if you send a part to them.
Bruce Blevins has a large collection of Packard factory prints. He'll need the Packard part number for the part you need to search his collection. Machine shops that cater to the old car hobby: caledoniacoachworks.co.uk/engineering/ restoric.co.uk/reverse-engineering-services/classic-car-parts/ wilsonmachining.com/ dmacmachining.com/ straight-eight.com/custom-parts/ restoric.co.uk/reverse-engineering-services/classic-car-parts/ hoopermachine.com/ Machine shops that offer prototyping services: parts-badger.com/rapid-prototype-cnc-machining-service-fast-parts/ protolabs.com/services/cnc-machining/cnc-milling/ xometry.com/ exproprod.com/services/ Listing for Bruce Blevins (Library of a large number of Packard part drawings) norcalpackards.org/parts_services.php Potential sources for spare or NOS parts: julrichpackard.com/ kanter.com/ packardparts.com/ packardseattlecompany.com/
