Disease or not, when or if you buy the '53 Mayfair Hardtop, don't forget the Packard Vehicle Registry.

Your T must have carburetor issues and steering system issues. It should only need choked when starting, if then. Opening the carburetor main jet control 1 full turn usually gives good results. A Model T in good order is a pleasure to drive at any reasonable speed, and very reliable. Just respect its limits, as is wise with any vehicle. A wealth of information is available at MTFCA.org.

Wow Ford Model T discussion on the Packard Forum...Kinda cool...I'm not a T guy, however I have been around Model A's since about 1963. There is one in my garage next to my Packard. Regarding the overheating Packard...all good suggestions, any one could be the problem...Unless my old eyes missed a comment...the condition of the Head Gasket has not come up. On our 1949 - 288...she ran hot when she came to us 12 years ago...We did all of the things mentioned here...and she would still run hot! Finally we pulled the head and found that the Head Gasket was leaking between the four middle cylindars...gave the old girl a new gasket from Max and she has run just fine up to about 100 degrees outside...then she will run a bit warm...so will I! I don't drive her when the outside temperature is over 90 or so. Don't want to sweat on the upholstery! Ernie in the wilds of Arizona
