I decided to look under the cover of the oil pickup on my 282. There was some fuzzy stuff beneath the cover. I brushed it off and let it sit in the parts cleaner.
My question is. Is there anything like filter material under this screen or is the screen all there is to keep the big pieces out of the oil pump?

On my 120, there was only wire mesh. It was a fine mesh, looked mostly like the mesh in a coffee maker that doesn't require a paper filter basket.

It should have only the mesh. It almost looks as though someone dropped a paper towel into the pan and it disintegrated! I just went through a similar process on my 1951’s but in that case it had petrified oil as hard as a rock that took considerable work and finally disassembly to get it all out.

Yeah I'm voting paper towel or the like. I can imagine someone tearing off a small piece to wipe an oil spill on the filler neck and dropping it in on accident.

Thanks for the info. I would agree it felt like a paper towel. I just wanted to be sure there wasn't something else involved.
