I've been spending some down time fixing up an old website of mine and added a page about my current project.
Its not all Packard but I think enough there to be relevant here, maybe even helpful . I'm running a 288 with 3 speed & R9 . Dual weber carbs & laker pipes. I realise personal websites are old school & out of fashion . But for old farts like me its nice to know where I put all my build info. 1929 Speedster build

Having a rare night of not being able to sleep last night, I got up, saw your post and went through your entire site reading all the captions and was quite impressed. I do want to go back and read the rest as it's a fascinating build and even interesting regulations about you may and may not do.

Thanks fellas, I've added a little more to the build page relevant to Packard , the Holden water pump conversion and HEI Distributor, although I think I may have wrote about them already in Modification discussion on this site.

Thoroughly enjoyed reviewing all your work and marveling at your inventiveness.
Let me put your mind at ease on a point: When you are using the overdrive, that is the solenoid is energized, there will be no freewheeling. And if you lock the unit out by moving that shift lever on the rear of the case forward, there will also be no freewheeling. Any time that .72 ratio is in use there is no freewheeling. So, depending how you wire thing up, you may have overdrive in any of the 3 forward speeds and tell your friends you installed a 6 speed trans. BUT, be sure you wire it up so that the solenoid is NEVER energized while you are selecting or using reverse. Chances are if you tried to back up the engine would stall, but if you revved it and popped the clutch you will need a magnet to collect all the pieces.

Thanks Ross , Thanks for proof reading.
That freewheeling is an assumption I made from testing the Overdrive with the car on jackstands, in gear & engine not running . Just by turning the back wheel , with the T handle pulling lever into place the rear wheel turns one direction & not the other. Regardless of weather the solenoid is energised or not. - does that sound right ? (I'll amend my web page) Looks like I'll have to read that Enconodrive training manual again. When I converted the Ford shift tower to fit the Packard trans I noted the Reverse lockout does pin not engage far enough , I need to weld a blob onto my reverse fork that pushes more on the pin. Thanks for the tip, Ive made a habit of never dropping the clutch on anything in reverse, I learned the hard way thats how to break Land Rover half shafts , so muscle memory dictates i'm gentle on the clutch when in reverse. cheers Don
