Yesterday i changed the rear differential fluid in Farm truck (as I call it, used for snow plowing and little else).
Today I decided to change the Transmission fluid and filter. Went to Auto Zone and got supplies.
So after going through a few blue towels and several pair of gloves I was done. So when I was done warming up the vehicle and checking the fluid levels after having put away jack, jack stands, wheel chocks, both drain pans, funnels and all of the tools except those that needed cleaning and picking up all of the mess I created I was a bit satisfied to have this done.
I walked through the door from the vehicle side into the wood shop area I looked down at the drain pans and tools that needed cleaning. Seeing the old transmission filter in the drain pan a slight bit of dread came over me. I then looked up and saw the new filter which I forgot to install sitting all by itself on the end of my project table.
Too late in the day to start all over so I went into the house and dinner was just about ready so I opened a bottle of wine.
Hopefully no dreams about taking out fifteen 13mm bolts, putting them back in only to take them out again and put them back in again.
Small distractions can make big setbacks. There are deep and shallow filters for the 4L60e. Make sure to match up to the old filter. You have the shallow filter in the pic which is for the pan that has a completely flat bottom. I have seen where a later deep pan which has a step was installed in an earlier unit that retained the shallow filter......the mismatch created a problem.
