Replacements for your original 1931-1939 Packard; these are usually cracked, melted, missing or darkened.
1) Used on 1931-1939 Packards -1 was used in Dash Panel Lighter -2 were used in the the rear vanities or armrest lighter(s) of most closed (some open) sedans -Lathe-turned -As on original: backside matte-brushed; frontside optically polished -Made from new correct amber color Lucite; heat, UV and scratch resistant
2) Replacement Procedure -Remove the old remnant/jewel -At this point, do any rechroming/electroplating FIRST -Make sure to remove all old lense material/debris from the inside lip/shoulder/seat where the lense will reside (I use an old dental pick tool or a small shop/jewelers screwdriver to scrape the lip clean prior to the next steps -Lightly clean the inside lip/shoulder/seat with both alcohol & Simple Green on a Q-tip swab applicator; dry thoroughly. -Then (using a bench/shop microscope or headpiece "Optivisor") place the new jewel into the interior of the bezel, convex/curved side of the lense OUTward. There is a shoulder/seat for the outer lip of the jewel to rest in. Use a #2 pencil soft eraser to push the jewel lense into place in its seat and hold it when you turn it upside down to visually verify that it is seated uniformly and just "peeking" out of the bezel hole (see photo) -Then, with the bezel/lense side facing down (use a small loose socket, with a Kleenex as an anti-scratch pad, to hold the assembly outside the diameter of the jewel); use a toothpick to daub 3-5 small "dots" of epoxy inside the bezel to bridge the very outer edge of the jewel lip onto the shoulder/seat of the metal bezel; avoid getting the epoxy into the illuminated zone of the jewel; this secures a properly seated jewel lense to its parent bezel. -Let it cure overnight in this "upside down" position -Once fully cured, you are ready to re-thread the finished bezel on top of the electrical element of the lighter head -Light up your favorite stogey/cigarillo and enjoy...AWAY from all that precious broadcloth/leather!
