JT; See service Counselor Vol 30 #1 Jan 1956 for a description of the difference between 55 and 56 links.

The first page of the SC covers "Valve Spring Baffles".

THe SC's are available in this forum as pdf for downloading.

I can't figure out how to cut'n paste the article here so u'll have to go look at the Service Counselor.

As a side note. I'm not sure why the 55 and 56 links could not be interchanged. The SC does not say they can not be interchanged. It explains the difference in the two links but only indicated the difference is to eliminate somekind of snapping noise.

The "ball" and socket of the 56 load links are ground differently and do not mate with 55 components. You could switch the links, lower seat, front load arm assy and pins from a 56 to a 55. You would need some way to rewind the TL bar as you would be replacing the load arm. Not a practical solution. Installing a pair of 55 pins seems much simpler. I would check the lower seats to make sure they aren't damaged and verify they are 1955.
