I am removing bright work and I have a few questions regarding Chrome Plating.
I know all about choosing the correct company to trust your molded "pot metal" to repair and re-plate, but my question is regarding two pieces of trim.
As you can see in the attached photographs, I have the hood latches removed and the copper insert removed. This latch is composed of two pieces, riveted together. Also the bumper guard that folds down in the rear is composed of two pieces, held together with rivets.
1. Do I drill out these rivets prior to sending to the plater or will the plating co. take apart the pieces and put back together?
2. The brass or bronze emblem in the hood latch - was this polished or painted? Mine looks as if it never had paint on it. I do not have access to any other 1941 120 to see certain things.

Re 1. Didn't take the bumper clamps off the over-riders when sent out for re-chroming. But, now I wish I had done so. The clamp sections are starting to lightly rust, so if you can get them apart and re-chrome them they'll be much better in the long term. Also I'd be careful about fit issues with the bumper clamp piece inside the over-rider once they are both re-chromed.

Re 2. Didn't take the hood latches off to re-chrome so I can't offer anything on that. Your medallions appear to be in better condition than mine are.

Wow! Thanks for the photographs!! Your post was quite helpful. There is a professional garage down the street from my house; I think I will see what we can do with a press and such on the bumper parts to get them apart.

I would not "chrome" the brackets holding the trunk guard to the bumper. That would not look correct. I would cad plate.

aren't those small brass medallions on the hood latches originally painted? I think white field, red lower shield.

Don't know about the red... but there was white. This is the best view I could find in the Photo Archive. Looks like polished brass/copper with a white fill. Don't know for sure if this is correct but I suspect it is. Each Model series, 180, 160, 120, 110 were different.

I think the emblem is common 110-120-160 (the latch it fits into changes). 180 is cloisonn?. Whether it's painted differently between models I don't know - I'll try to get a shot.

Could be. The only medallion I have hands-on experience with is the 180.

Edit: According to the parts manual, you are correct. Same part number for 120, 160. It looks like the 110 didn't get a medallion. Maybe the latch for the 110 had its own device built in as part of the latch assembly?
