That's the optional mouton wool (silver Persian lamb) carpeting. It's got a tight curl to it, made from the extremely young skin of Karakul breed lambs, and as far as I know, it is not produced anymore. Well, maybe it is, but I think it brings with it the same connotation as wearing fur because of the way the pelts are harvested.
