Interior Firewall Material

All,

I have the original but it is very brittle?

What type of material was used for the Interior firewall?

I was thinking of purchasing some leather and just gluing it to what is there now. Is that a bad idea, good idea?

A little extra info.
The original is embossed with the the firewalls stamping and contours.

I am at the point to reinstalling some of the doodads that attach to the firewall and found that this material needs to be install first.

Any input would be great.

Thanks

They have it but a bit pricey. May just have to bite the bullet.

Another Place that carries them. Quietride

One of their dealers that carries it for them is posted above. But they also sell to the public.

Waiting for reply from them on sending me a picture before I make my decision on purchasing one.

Was on a trip to Brazil this past week and to my surprise when I got back home the
Firewall INSULATOR from Quietride and Wiring Harrness from narragansettre productions where sitting in the garage.

The Firewall INSULATOR is very well made and looks to be close to the original in design. I will know more in a few days when I go to install it. That is first I need to ask you all a question.

Should this be left black (as it came from Quietride)or should it be painted to match interior color?

I have attach a picture that I received from another '31 owner who has the original interior still in his car. By the looks of it to me his looks to be black.

If it were left black I can still keep hammering away this winter reassembling Old Bessie

I'm almost 100 percent sure it should be black.

West,

Thanks for your input. With that said now I can start reinstalling all the firewall gadgets

All I need now is to get my dash back from being wood-grained and she will be running in no time.

Tom,

I just order mine about a week ago. I decide to replace mine. Although not bad, it looked out of place compared to the rest of the interior which had been redone recently. Also since I have things removed already for the engine and transmission rebuild, it makes it easier.

My original one for my 32 is black.

Thanks Guys.

Ken,
You will be happy that you did order a new one. I sure am.

I installed it on Saturday and it was a perfect match. Only holes that are missing are for the heater. Which I am debating with myself of not reinstalling anyways.

Is that because it's always so warm in Illinois this time of year?
