It does seem odd to me that a "reproduction" belt would appear to be so non original. Maybe this type of cogged belt is all that could be supplied by whoever made them especially for Mr. Ulrich if that is the case?

On my 1950 Packard 288 I had an old belt that fit barely (stretched due to age I guess) and a new one that was too short by a small amount. I just went to Napa with the old belt and said I wanted the next size longer. They gave me one that fit, but it is the cogged type. I suggest Napa because they are handy and the price was less than the repro that doesn't look original. I would love to get a belt that was the old solid construction however, just for the original appearance. I do not know if they make that solid type anymore.

Fred, the narrower belts like the 288 are still available in solid cross-section, though perhaps not from your auto parts store. Try places like MSC or McMaster-Carr.
Remind me if you can, what's the width of the 288/327 belt? 21/32 comes to mind.

Hello All, just a brief update. I had concerns about my water pump and decided to replace it before reinstalling the re-cored radiator. The hub/pulley fit was not the concern. The concerns were the impeller had a brazed repair, and it did not feel "right" when I turned the pulley. Better to do it now than some other time, which in all likelihood would be at the worst possible time and in the worst possible place (apologies to Murphy). I ordered a rebuilt unit from Max Merritt. It arrived, and it is on the car. While installing John Ulrich's v-belt I noticed that it DOES have markings. Here are photos of them. This, after I was certain that the belt did not have them. Often mistaken but never confused. I'll take my beating now.
