Pertronix ignitor install on a 38 1601?

Dear All,

I hope everyone had a nice thanksgiving, and will have a happy holidays.

I am curious if anyone has installed a Pertronix ignitor system in a pre-war application, specifically a 1938 1601 (282)? Their catalog seems to indicate that one of their systems will work with 37 systems, and 40-42, but not 1938.

If it is possible, I might try it (keeping the original dist plate, of course).

Thanks,

Thomas

G'day Tom,

Are you branching out from the '30 and '34 with a '38 120? And when I clicked on the link to Packard Paddock it didn't work.

Hey Mal,

Yeah, the Paddock site is down. Hopefully back up today.

And yes, there is a new Packard in the family. She is a 1938 Packard 1601 Club Coupe. I bought her for my GF birthday. She is turning 50 ...ouch...I mean 25, on December 9.

Cheers,

Tom

There's nothing like a 1601 Club Coupe especially if it's Packard Ivory :D

That's great Tom, congratulations. Before I bought my '41 Club Coupe I was looking for a '38.

Howdy Tom...haven't seen you here in a while. I see no reason why the "standard" petronix unit would not work on a 38-120. Basically the same distributor from 37-39, so unless there is something I am missing (no, I don't have petronix on my cars), you shouldn't have a problem.

Dave,

Thanks for the info. I am sort of curious about trying it. It doesn't seem too difficult, and putting the stock dist. plate back in is no biggie.

Mal and Phil,

We are looking forward to having a modern car to drive around! Right now I am having a local shop clean out the gas tank, fuel lines, replace brake lines, etc. Nothing much, just stuff that needs to be done after the car sat for 9 years. I would do the work my self, but the garage is still a little full!

Cheers,

Thomas

John,

Yes, you should stop by, the car is in the back on a lift. I was thinking about stopping by tomorrow to check on progress. If you would like to join me, give me a call.
