Dear All,

Does anybody have roughly modern equivalent paint codes for the following 1938 body colors:

Packard Maroon
Loyola Maroon Metalic
Caribbean Blue Metalic
Centennial Blue
Berkshire Green Metallic

Laurie's 1938 is currently very poorly painted in black, and we would like to repaint it in a color choice that was actually available* and is slightly more sporty.

*I haven't found a ton of references for paint colors available in 38, but all I have found do not include black. This is probably inaccurate. Nonetheless, black just isn't sporty for this style, in our opinion.

My 38 coupe is Packard Ivory (very pale yellow)

Any good paint store can supply paint from your original name or number. They won't have the formula in the book but can get it from the head office in hours or at most, a day or 2.

All the major paint companies like PPG, RM, Sikkens have formulas for colors going back to the 20s. I mean modern paint formulas for the old colors.

You are welcome. The oldest I have gotten personally were for a 2 tone 52 Chrysler New Yorker. Sikkens mixed the colors from the numbers on the firewall ID plate.

Others have told me they got paints for Model A colors of the late 20s.

The local paint store told me they need either the original color name or number and the year and make of car.

Try Sherwin Williams. I've had great success matching old codes with their system. FYI: Maaco uses SW paint.
