Recently acquired this car and need to know more about it. Have been looking through pictures but can't seem to find anything quite the same. The date on it is 11/04/36 and is a 1937 make but beyond that don't know much about the model. Has a V12 engine, 134" wheel base. Figured that this was the place to come if we wanted to learn more about this car. Any help you can give would be appreciated. Thanks -Tony

Please measure the wheelbase again. Possibilities are 132, 139 or 144 inches. Depending on that you've got a Fifteenth Series Packard Twelve, 1300 produced across about 14 combinations of body style and wheelbase. Is the vehicle number plate (patent plate) still present on the engine side of the firewall? How about the engine #?

I'm curious as to your statement of knowing the exact date it was built - that's almost never known and nearly impossible to determine. Might you mean the date it was sold (on the VN plate)? Or a casting date on the engine (which doesn't identify the build date)?

I went to college in Menomonie (or, as I used to say back then, MeNoMoney)!!! Did this car come from the area, or did you drag it home from somewhere else?

G'day Tony,
to PackardInfo. The more info you can supply, including the VN plate, or pictures of the car will help in it's identification. You can also access the Packard Model Information module here on PackardInfo.

And could you include your '37 V12 in the Packard Owner's Registry here together with a pic, any known history and how you acquired it please?

Thanks for the replies. Owen_Dyneto, thanks for your info.. When we measured the wheel base it was snowy and windy. Not the best conditions for measuring anything. Thank you for the correction. The corrected version would be 132". The numbers are as follows, VN is 1023-233, and the number on the firewall is 280458 embossed. The date was on the serial # plate. Have not looked for engine # yet. Where to look? West P, this Car was brought up from down south. Yes, you are right. Me-no-money!

The car is a 1937 - 1023 Twelve Touring Sedan.

Here is the Model Info page for it:

Hi

Congratulations, you bought an interesting and highly desirable Twelve to restore! The first time you drive that relatively light sedan on the short 1506 chassis, you're going to find it is one very peppy car!

That 473 c.i. '37 Twelve is rated at 175 hp at 3200 rpm, more rpms than you'd ever want to run it for long but more important is the torque: 366 lb/ft at 1400 rpms. At about double an idle, it makes the maximum torque, you'll need a light foot on that accelerator!

Steve
