openings in Clipper dash

My 42 clipper has a series of openings in the center of the dash. One is about 3" X 3 1/2" and there is also about a 1" dia. hole and a couple of smaller rectangular holes. The previous owner said that this was where the ash tray went but the photo's I have seen shows the ash tray below the dash. Can anybody tell me what was there and maybe even where I can parts to fill the holes?
thanks

Don't have a topside photo, but am sure one will be along before too long. Here is a photo from underneath out of a service letter showing where noise abatement material is to be placed when you do find an ashtray to fill the holes. Check out Yesterdays Radio www.yesterdaysradio.com. He has the plastic pieces but don't know where you would find all the metal parts other than ebay or maybe a vendor.

Believe post war Clipper trays moved under dash.

Crotomac,

HH56 has it right.
41 and 42 Clippers had an ash tray in the center of the dash.
I made an 'ash tray delete' for my dash center. I consider it a "safety improvement."
The round hole is for the windshield wiper switch and knob.

Here is a pict from the driver's side of my dash.

Also a link to another 41 Clipper. The dash colors aren't right IMHO, but they are illustrative.

Go to 1941 Clipper and it is in that series.

The photos are from: AACA Antique Auto Museum at Hershey

Hope this adds to your Christmas.

PS - Do you know anyone in MN Packard Club?

Here is my dash pict.
It's dark but gives the idea.
I am not ready to invest $400+ in an ash tray repro for a 'no smoking' Clipper.

I have plenty of other priorities for restoration.

Crookston is 329 miles north of me. I am in Sioux Falls.
You are farther from Mpls, MN than I am.
That is where most of MN Packard Club stuff is held.

thanks for the info. It gives me a direction to go in figuring out what to do about the ugly hole in my dash.

DanL, I don't know anyone in the Mn Packard Club. As I mentioned, I just got this car earlier this month and am just now starting to really get into it. Doubt that I will be going to twin cities as I don't care for big cities and we have a very active car club here. I also have a couple other cars that my wife and I play with (70 Nova and 72 Cutlass) and we keep pretty busy as it is. That being said, It would be good to get out and see other Packards. My wife and I both are pretty excited about this car.

Thanks again for the info and it is great having somewhere to go for advice and discuss common interests.

Merry Christmas,
crotomac

Crotomac,

Enjoy your Clipper toy. I sure do have much pleasure with mine. I have had it two years.

If you decide on making an Ash Tray Delete, I made a simple one out of an aluminium scrap, painted dash color and plastic door-guard pieces that look like chrome. VERY EXPEN$IVE!

Double click on my dash photo for a close up view. Do it 2X.
