But I'm intrigued about your reference to "another speedster project" and I also saw your other post about the Argentinian speedster. Which leads to some questions, such as do you have a Speedster and is it a Packard? And if by chance you do have a Packard speedster could you please include it in the Packard Owner's Registry, together with a pic, any known history and how you acquired it?

Not too sure about the cowl, but that radiator shell screams Buick to me.

Hello,
I am considering a speedster project with the "Bits" I have. I know of a local Hot Rod packard speedster here in the Seattle area. It has little to do with Packard other than the grille and shape. Other than that, I am Packard-less. My idea runs more along the lines of a Teens board track racer, smaller in scale than a BIG 20's racecar. If you compare the 1919 to the 1923---the '23 seems bigger and taller going along with the advances in engineering... As far as drivetrain, it's small and light enough for a "Hot" six.

That picture shows the 1923 on the left and the 1916 on the right.

As for the "Hot six" idea, you're better off putting in a 288/327 than a six. You'll have a lot more engine for the same money, and the postwar straight eights are easier t find than the sixes.
You can build a nice 288 that'll rev and have plenty of power a LOT easier than trying to make a six work. And I can give you a few pointers as well.

Thanks, I appreciate that.
I would like to I.D. this cowl to figure out what it is, before I choose a direction to go. The Packard race car in the photo is more likely this one, as the hood sides match and it looks a lot smaller overall.

I'm going to vote for '20s Buick. The "Stewart" on the tank on the cowl is because that's a Stewart Warner vacuum operated "fuel pump".

To continue my Packard education, this post prompted me to review the pic's available here Packard Photo Archive to try and identify the cowl. There aren't many pic's from that era however it appears it could be 1921-22. Prior to that it appears the cowls didn't have a top side vent while this one does.
