That's an excellent price. I paid 3 times that for my 1939 1707 1233 that was and remains in far worse condition.

I've temporarilly halted the restoration, so the chassis is as seen in the third photo, just outside and covered. The structural wood is very deteriorated, so rather than re-wood the 39 I'm looking for a donor body('38 Super 8 with 134 inch wb or a 38/39 V12). I have new front fenders and some other new parts.

Why pull another car out of circulation? A band saw and a little patience, anyone of us can rebuild the wood. the steel makes for a great pattern. Granted, I am a hobbiest woodworker, and as such perhaps a little faster, but it is not rocket science. The best part, is that if you destroy a piece, you get to start over and make it right. Try that with a V12 head.

Answering Ray's question. The reason to find a donor body is strictly economic. According to my restorer, to properly re-wood the car is about a $40,000 proposition, whereas, if we could find a donor body in the $10,000 to $20,000 range we a dollars ahead for the rest of the restoration -- which will still cost more than the car is worth. Can you tell I'm the accountant in the family (with a Packard passion)?

$40,000 - just sounds to me as if it is not a project that they want to undertake...., I know that I am in the very small minority, but honestly the "rewooding" just takes a little patience. Hey, if wood is not your thing, no worries, but something tells me that I would do 4-5 for that. Now granted, I am just starting on mine, so maybe ignorance is bliss, but I doubt it.

I will concede that one restored is better than two in the barn!
